I bet you were around with me in the late 1980s when they were teaching Edward de Bono’s classic, Six Thinking Hats. In many ways, his book was about perspectives as well as decision-making, encouraging people to approach new things from multiple angles.
While it seems that nearly all of the present-day media (and subsequently, the public) are focused on caution and negativity when it comes to AI, this may be an evolutionary trait. The same trait has kept us safe from saber-toothed predators and other nasties for thousands of years, and has been embedded in our movies and culture for decades.
Ultimately, it is a misuse of imagination to focus only on the black hat of caution and negativity, especially when it comes to intelligence advancements. There are many angles from which to view AI…
